World Football governing body FIFA has written to Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb Amina Mohamed to reinstate embattled Football Federation Of Kenya (FKF) President Nick Mwenda and his team.

FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura on Sunday wrote a letter to Sports Cabinet Amb Amina asking for an urgent meeting and also urging her to reinstate Nick and the FKF officials who were sacked last week following corruption allegations and failing to account for the funds it has been receiving from the government.

FIFA had mentioned that they were willing to help Kenya find a solution to the current back and forth within the football organisation, but on condition that Nick Mwendwa and his team reinstated.

“Going forward, without prejudice to the allegations that have been raised and any potential trial for offences that may have been committed, FIFA and CAF are asking you to consider the reinstatement of the FKF Executive Committee as prior thereto,” reads the letter

Amb Amina formed a committee of about twenty-seven members who will be in charge of the country’s football until a new body is formed by the ministry.

“The appointment of the so-called ‘Caretaker Committee’ by your office is undoubtedly contrary to our principles according to which all our member associations including FKF are required to manage their affairs independently and without undue influence of any third parties,” FIFA Sec General wrote.

Nick Mwendwa and Secretary-General Barry Otieno were arrested on Friday, November 12th 2021 afternoon over the misuse of funds while visiting the Harambee Stars camp at the Nyayo National Stadium.

They are both expected to be in court and are expected to be produced in court on Monday 15th November.
