A Kenyan businessman bought three planes during an auction organized by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to unload planes abandoned by their owners.

KAA auctioned off 73 abandoned aircraft at different airports in the country, some for as low as $700 which was equivalent to Ksh 70,000.

According to media reports, the KAA decided to auction off the planes as parking fees increased, but the owners showed no interest to make up for the same.

During the auction, a businessman named David Njuguna reportedly bought three planes; says it will donate to Raila Odinga, ODM Leader, for personal use, business and last but not least campaigns.

“One is for business, the jet one is going to be for personal use and the other one we are going to support Baba for the campaigns. We are going to donate one to ODM,” he told Reuters.

Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister has yet to announce whether he will contest the presidential seat in 2022, but all indications are that he is in the race and could use the Azimio la Umoja initiative as his campaign platform.

The auction sparked a backlash, with many wondering if the planes were in good condition for use.

Some netizens questioned Kenya's airworthiness, arguing that such aircraft could cause disasters in the country's airspace.
