Singer, songwriter, and rapper Lil Nas X is launching a controversial pair of sneakers dubbed the Satan shoes.

The black and red sneakers which were made by using Nike Air Marx 97s feature a bronze pentagram, an inverted cross, and a drop of real human blood.

The sneakers will only roll out 666 pairs of the sneakers in the limited edition drop.

Lil Nas X paired up with a New York-based art collective MSCHF. Though they used Nike Air Max 97 for the shoes, the international sportswear brand has distance itself from the shoes saying that they do not endorse them.

“We do not have a relationship with Lil Nas or MSCHF,” Nike’s email to CNN read in part. “Nike did not design or release these shoes and we do not endorse them.”

Each shoe has an air bubble sole that contains 60 cubic centimeters (2.03 fluid ounces) of red ink and “one drop” of human blood, according to MSCHF.

They are priced at $1,018 a pair, a reference to the Bible passage Luke 10:18 that reads: “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”

A MSCHF spokesperson said the blood had been provided by members of the art collective, adding: “We love to sacrifice for our art.” The group also confirmed to CNN that Nike was “not involved in this in any capacity.”

Back in 2019, MSCHF dropped yet another controversial limited-edition sneakers dubbed “Jesus Shoes”, made from the same Nike Air Max 97 sneakers.

The “Jesus Sneakers” which came in a white colorway featured a steel crucifix, and “holy water” sourced from the Jordan River.

Lil Nas X real name Montero Lamar Hill broke the internet as we know it by releasing a yet controversial music video for his new song dubbed ‘Montero(Call Me By Your Name’ which sees him dancing provocatively with a devil character.

He thereafter snapped the devil’s neck before removing his horned crown and assuming it himself before the music video ends abruptly.

The ‘Montero(Call Me By Your Name)’ music video has slightly over 30 million views on YouTube since it dropped 3 days ago.
